What Couples Will Learn In A Weekend Workshop

SESSION 1: UNCONVENTIONAL COUPLE & 1 PETER FRAMEWORK

In Session 1 we explain why using the world’s conventional model of marriage leaves people feeling frustrated and discouraged and how an Unconventional model of marriage, based on scripture and relationship research, provides a sustainable foundation for every marriage. We also do an in depth examination of 1 Peter and help each couple understand the mindset necessary to create a redemptive relationship.

SESSION 2: OPENNESS (In Worksgroups)

Being defensive and closed off from your spouse gets in the way of intimacy. In this session we show each couple why Openness is the essential first step to improving their marriages and, more importantly, will guide each couple through a hands-on experience of being emotionally open and vulnerable with their spouse. Couples will then have the chance to share their experience with other couples at the workshop.

SESSION 3: RESPONSIBILITY (In Worksgroups)

It’s easy for couples to become fixated on the faults of their spouse. It’s also a waste of time. When each spouse takes Responsibility for the things they’re doing that contributes to the dysfunction of the relationship, real change starts to happen. In this portion of the Workshop, we help couples stop blaming each other by leading them through The Grocery List Exercise. Couples will again have the chance to share their experience with other couples at the workshop.

SESSION 4: EMPATHY (In Worksgroups)

Understanding why your spouse thinks and feels the way they do produces deep emotional connection. In this session, we walk couples through the power of feelings and give spouses the opportunity to connect in ways that they may not have done for years.

SESSION 5: GRACE (In Worksgroups)

Each person has inherent, God-given value. When couples understand and remember this, they approach each argument or conflict with much more compassion and grace. Through another interactive experience, we will help each couple be able to see each other the way God sees them and then provide the opportunity for each couple to share with others in their group.

SESSION 6: ONENESS (In Worksgroups)

In this session, we examine the Big Five marriage-ending, conflict-inducing, deal-breakers couples constantly fight over. Through the use of the Shared Values Exercises, we will teach each couple how to finally get on the same page so they can begin to experience true Oneness and enjoy shared values.

SESSION 7: NEEDS (In Worksgroups)

Do you know what the primary needs are of your husband, or your wife? Understanding how your spouse’s personal history affects their thinking, feeling, and perspective on life is essential to learning how to love your spouse more effectively. In this last sessions of the Workshop, we will guide couples through exercises to discover the primary needs of their spouse.
